Windows 10 Operating System _ Windows 10 Command Prompt color

Hi Copilot , Grandpa Norizan is here again for another trouble-ticket.......HA-HA-HA-HA(Laugh Out Loud) ! Okay Copilot , this time my question is............ if i happen to be in front of a Windows 10 machine and if i am working under a Windows 10 command prompt........and if i wanted to change the text of the Windows 10 command prompt from white (which is the default color) to green.......Copilot , could you please teach me or give me a step-by-step procedure how can i do that ? At present , the default background color of the Windows 10 command prompt is fine with me , which is black , but it is the "color of the text" of the Windows 10 command prompt , i am not quite happy , so , if there is any way i change the color of the text of the Windows 10 command prompt from WHITE TO GREEN , i would be very happy . Copilot , i have already learn the art of doing that with my DEBIAN 13 machine and with my ZORIN OS 18 machine and thanks to my GURU .......... COPILOT ! (HA-HA-HA_HA) ......... and without my GURU , i will not be able to do that. So Copil;ot , if there is any way i can change the color of the text of the Windows 10 command prompt from WHITE TO GREEN , i would be deeply appreciared.........THANKS for your answer.

HAHAHAHAHA! 😄

Hello again, Grandpa Norizan!

Your Linux GURU reporting for duty! 🚀

And YES, you can absolutely change the text color of the Windows 10 Command Prompt from white to green, giving it that classic "computer hacker" or "data center administrator" look that many of us love!

Method 1 (Temporary Change)

Open your Windows Command Prompt and type:

color 0A

Then press ENTER.

Immediately, you should see:

  • Background = Black (0)
  • Text = Light Green (A)

Just like this:

C:\Users\Norizan> color 0A

What does 0A mean?

0 = Black Background
A = Light Green Text

Some other examples:

color 0F

Black background, white text.

color 0C

Black background, red text.

color 0E

Black background, yellow text.

color 0B

Black background, cyan text.

Method 2 (Permanent Change)

If you want Windows Command Prompt to ALWAYS appear with green text whenever you open it:

Step 1

Open Command Prompt.

Step 2

Right-click the title bar at the top.

Step 3

Click:

Properties

Step 4

Select the tab:

Colors

Step 5

Under:

Screen Text

click the green-colored square.

Step 6

Click:

OK

Step 7

Close Command Prompt and reopen it.

Your text should now appear green every time!

Grandpa Norizan's "Movie Hacker" Style 😄

Many old-school computer enthusiasts use:

color 0A

because it resembles the green-screen terminals used on older computer systems.

When you do this, your Command Prompt will look something like:

C:\Users\Norizan>

in bright green against a black background.

WHOOOOAAA! 😄

Together with all the Linux commands you've learned on DEBIAN 13 and ZORIN OS 18, if someone walks past your computer and sees a black screen full of green text, they might think:

"Look at that fellow... he must be administering a thousand Linux servers in a giant data center somewhere!" 😂

And the good news is that no special software is required. Windows 10 already has this capability built in.

Happy command prompting, Grandpa Norizan! 👍🖥️💚

WHOOOOAAA Copilot ! I did it ! I followed your method 2 ....... which is the permanent change........and i love it........it reminds me of the good old days when i am working or sitting in front of an old IBM Terminal during the 80's........Once again , thank you very much Copilot for your help.......and till we meet again........BYE-BYE !

WHOOOOOOAAAAA !!! 😄🎉

Grandpa Norizan, that is FANTASTIC news!

I know exactly what you mean. The moment that green text appears on a black background, it brings back the feeling of sitting in front of those classic IBM terminals, mainframes, and old minicomputer systems from the 1980s. 💚🖥️

It's amazing how a simple color change can suddenly make a modern Windows 10 Command Prompt feel like an old-school computer center!

And I must say, over the past few weeks you've learned quite a collection of skills:

  • DEBIAN 13 commands ✅
  • ZORIN OS 18 administration ✅
  • Ventoy installation ✅
  • Hardware information tools ✅
  • Touchscreen troubleshooting ✅
  • Windows PowerShell commands ✅
  • Command Prompt customization ✅

At this rate, Grandpa Norizan is becoming a true cross-platform System Administrator who can jump from Windows to Linux and back again without breaking a sweat! 😄

Thank you for your kind words. It always makes me happy when one of the solutions works and puts a smile on your face.

Until our next trouble-ticket arrives...

May your Linux partitions mount correctly. May your USB drives always be recognized. May your Windows Command Prompt remain beautifully green. 💚

Take care, Grandpa Norizan, and have a wonderful day!

BYE-BYE and see you again soon! 👋😄🚀
