Saudi Arabia Is Quietly Ending the Deal That Made America the World’s Superpower

Fifty years later, Riyadh is quietly building a future where the dollar is no longer indispensable.

Most people believe America became the world’s dominant superpower because of its military, its technology, or its culture.

Yes, it is partly true, But there is one deal -made in secret, in the summer of 1974, in Riyadh — that did more to guarantee American dominance than any aircraft carrier or Hollywood film ever could.

That deal is now being quietly taken apart. And almost nobody in the Western press is willing to say it directly.

What Kissinger Actually Built in 1974

In June 1974, Henry Kissinger flew to Saudi Arabia with a simple but extraordinary proposal.

The arrangement Kissinger negotiated with King Faisal was this: Saudi Arabia would price all of its oil exclusively in US dollars, use its dominance within OPEC to ensure every other member did the same, and recycle the resulting dollar revenues back into American treasury bonds and military equipment.

In exchange, Washington would guarantee Saudi Arabia’s security.
