Linux Operating System UBUNTU _ FileZilla Client Setup HOW-TO

 

To transfer files from a Linux machine(for example a Linux UBUNTU machine) to a Windows machine(for example a Windows 10 Desktop) and vice versa, using a  Local Area Network , i prefer to install FileZilla Client Software on my Linux machine(for example a Linux UBUNTU machine) and then use the Linux machine(for example a Linux UBUNTU machine) to connect to the Windows machine(for example a Windows 10 Desktop) which has been    installed/configured    with a FileZilla  Server  Software .  Then proceed with the file transfer as usual.   

FileZilla is a graphical FTP, SFTP, and FTPS client available on Ubuntu through multiple installation methods. You can install it from the default repository, via the XtraDeb PPA for newer APT builds, or as a Flatpak for a sandboxed latest version.

Method 1: Install from Ubuntu Default Repository

1. Open the terminal with Ctrl + Alt + T.

2. Update package lists with sudo apt update.

3. Install FileZilla using sudo apt install filezilla -y.

4. Verify installation by running filezilla --version.

Method 2: Install from XtraDeb PPA (Ubuntu 24.04 only)

1. Open the terminal.

2. Install PPA management tools: sudo apt install software-properties-common -y.

3. Add the PPA: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xtradeb/apps -y.

4. Update package lists with sudo apt update.

5. Install FileZilla: sudo apt install filezilla -y.

6. Verify installation with filezilla --version.

Method 3: Install via Flatpak (All Ubuntu LTS versions)

1. Ensure Flatpak is installed: sudo apt install flatpak -y.

2. Add Flathub repository: sudo flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo.

3. Install FileZilla: sudo flatpak install flathub org.filezillaproject.Filezilla -y.

4. Verify installation: flatpak run org.filezillaproject.Filezilla --version.

Launching FileZilla

1. From terminal (APT): run filezilla.

2. From terminal (Flatpak): run flatpak run org.filezillaproject.Filezilla.

3. Or open Activities, search for FileZilla, and click the icon.

Connecting to a Remote Server

1. For quick connections, fill Host, Username, Password, and Port in the Quickconnect bar.

2. For saved profiles, open File → Site Manager, click New Site, and configure protocol, login type, and directories.
