I just looked at Walmart’s website. They’re selling 40-inch TV sets for $118 and 32-inch sets for $78. If you’re buying 100 TV sets at once for a new hotel, you can probably get a cheaper price.
Now think for a minute about the other things that go into a hotel room — the bed, the carpet, the wallpaper, the other furniture such as a desk and chairs. Consider the other amenities you often find in there, such as an iron and ironing board, a coffee maker, etc., that many guests don’t use.
If you’re going to all that expense to outfit a hotel room, why wouldn’t you include a TV set? Even if most guests don’t use it, its presence is unlikely to offend anyone.
And I suspect more guests use the TV than you think. Some want to catch up on the news. Some want to see a weather report to decide whether they need to leave really early the next morning to avoid a snowstorm. And some people just really like watching TV.
