Hi Copilot , could you please teach me or give me a step-by-step procedure how can I copy the URL of a website using a keyboard ? THANKS.

MICROSOFT Copilot Answer

  1. Focus address bar: Press Ctrl + L (or Alt + D).
  2. Copy URL: Press Ctrl + C.

macOS (Chrome, Safari, Firefox)

  1. Focus address bar: Press ⌘ + L.
  2. Copy URL: Press ⌘ + C.

Copying a link’s URL on a page (without using the mouse)

Windows/Linux (Chrome, Edge, Firefox)

  1. Jump through links: Press Tab until the link is highlighted.
  2. Open link in a new tab (optional): Press Ctrl + Enter if the link is in the address bar, otherwise use Enter to open it.
  3. Copy from the opened page: Press Ctrl + L, then Ctrl + C.
  • Alternative in Firefox:
    • Show context menu with keyboard: Press Shift + F10 on the focused link.
    • Copy link: Use arrow keys to select “Copy Link” and press Enter.

macOS (Chrome, Safari, Firefox)

  1. Enable full keyboard access (if Tab doesn’t select links): System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard navigation → turn on “Use keyboard navigation to move focus between controls.”
  2. Jump through links: Press Tab until the link is focused.
  3. Open link: Press Enter, then ⌘ + L, then ⌘ + C.
  • Alternative (Firefox):
    • Context menu: Press Fn + Shift + F10 (or Shift + F10) on the focused link.
    • Copy link: Use arrows to choose “Copy Link” and press Return.

Quick tips

  • Paste anywhere: Ctrl + V (Windows/Linux) or ⌘ + V (macOS).
  • Copy URL of the current tab fast: Ctrl/⌘ + L selects the entire URL instantly; you don’t need to highlight it manually.
  • If Tab skips links: Turn on keyboard navigation (macOS) or check browser accessibility settings.
