If you’re in the market for a new laptop or tablet you may have come across several options that fall under the Windows on Arm ecosystem. Originally launched in late 2017, Windows on Arm provides the quintessential Microsoft OS experience but runs on Arm processing hardware. We typically associate Arm with smartphones but the architecture is growing as a serious competitor to PC staples AMD and Intel.

With Apple brandishing custom Arm-based M1 silicon to differentiate its latest MacBook line and a growing portfolio of Windows on Arm products, Arm-based laptops are increasingly entering mainstream consciousness. The winds of change are certainly heading in Arm’s direction but why is this suddenly preferable to traditional AMD- and Intel-powered laptops?
