Hi Copilot, how can i keep the ONSREEN KEYBOARD on my Windows 8 Laptop inside the TASKBAR just like the BATTERY and WIFI and SPEAKER so that when i reboot my Windows 8 Laptop ...... the ONSCREEN KEYBOARD is there? THANKS COPILOT FOR THE ANSWER.
On Windows 8, the On-Screen Keyboard (OSK) doesn’t have a built-in option to stay permanently in the taskbar like the battery, Wi-Fi, or speaker icons. However, you can make it almost as convenient by setting it to launch automatically at startup and pinning shortcuts for quick access:
⚙️ Method 1: Auto-start at login
- Press Windows key + R → type
shell:startup→ press Enter. - This opens the Startup folder.
- Find the On-Screen Keyboard:
- Press Windows key + Q → type On-Screen Keyboard.
- Right-click it → choose Open file location.
- Copy the shortcut into the Startup folder.
- Now, every time you reboot, the OSK will open automatically.
📌 Method 2: Pin to Taskbar
- Open the On-Screen Keyboard (search for it in the Start screen).
- Right-click its icon in the taskbar.
- Select Pin this program to taskbar.
- This keeps the OSK icon on your taskbar, so you can launch it anytime.
🖱️ Method 3: Ease of Access Center
- Go to Control Panel → Ease of Access → Ease of Access Center.
- Under Quick access to common tools, check Start On-Screen Keyboard.
- This ensures it appears when you log in.
👉 Combining Method 1 (auto-start) and Method 2 (pinning) gives you the closest experience to having it “always there” like battery/Wi-Fi/speaker icons.
Would you like me to walk you through setting it so the On-Screen Keyboard minimizes to the taskbar automatically after startup, instead of opening full screen? That way it behaves more like a system tray tool.
