 Is a smartphone a  machine ?

 Yes , smartphones and tablets are indeed considered computers . A computer is really any device that accepts input from a user , performs calculations on that input , and provides an output to the user .

 The  15.6 inches  Smartphone , that I envisioned , is a machine ( regardless of what Operating System ) which can have the physical appearance of  a  15.6 inches Laptop ,  or it can have the physical appearance of  a   15.6 inches  Tablet , or it can have the physical appearance of a   "Folding Smartphone which can unfold into a 15.6 inches   Tablet" .  Regardless  whether the  15.6 inches  Smartphone  look like a  15.6 inches Laptop , or look like a   15.6 inches  Tablet or it looks like  a   Folding Smartphone(a folding smartphone that can unfold into a   15.6 inches   Tablet) ,  what they have in common is that , they behave like a  Smartphone ( can  make phone calls and reply phone calls , send emails , sms , WhatsApp , WeChat , Snapchat , Facebook, Instagram, TikTok , etc., etc.  ) and they operate like a  Smartphone and  they have a  15.6 inches screen size , so much so that , a  Laptop can be use as  a Smartphone  and  a   Tablet can be use as  a Smartphone   and  a   "Folding Smartphone which can unfold into a 15.6 inches   Tablet"     can also be a  Smartphone .

 Making a phone call and replying a phone call with  a  15.6 inches Smartphone (regardless of Operating System) which has the physical appearance of a  folding smartphone (the folding smartphone has been folded like a normal Android smartphone)

15 inches Smartphone that has the physical appearance of a Laptop ( a " 360 degrees foldable " Laptop )

  

Below is a  15.6 inches  Linux  Smartphone which has the physical appearance of a  Laptop ( a  " 360 degrees foldable  Laptop ) ,  with built-in DVD-RW Player , which can unfold into a  15.6 inches  Tablet .

[ The  15.6 inches  Smartphone , that I envisioned , regardless of Operating System , regardless whether it look like a  Laptop or it look like a  Tablet or it look like a  Folding Smartphone , what they have in common is that , they behave like a  Smartphone ( can  make phone calls and reply phone calls , send emails , sms , WhatsApp , WeChat , Snapchat , Facebook, Instagram, TikTok , etc., etc.  ) and they have a  15.6 inches screen size , so much so that , a Laptop can also be a Smartphone and  a  Tablet can also be a Smartphone ]

Because of the   15.6 inches screen size (when unfolded) , because of the  15.6 inches form factor (when unfolded)    ,  I  prefer to use this 15.6 inches  Linux  Smartphone  more like a  15.6 inches Linux Cellular Laptop 1  ( in LAPTOP MODE ) but when I commute , standing on a  crowded train , on a crowded tram , on a crowded bus , I prefer to use it as a  15.6 inches Linux Cellular Tablet ( in TABLET MODE ) , because it is easier to pick up phone calls when using it as a  15.6 inches Tablet ( in TABLET MODE ) .

Since the  15.6 inches  Linux  Smartphone ( which have the physical appearance of a Laptop )  have a built-in DVD-RW Player , the  15.6 inches  Linux  Smartphone ( which have the physical appearance of a Laptop )  is going to be a little bit thicker than normal ,  but this is logical because of the thickness of the DVD-RW Player .  Anyway ,   a  15.6 inches  Linux  Smartphone ( which have the physical appearance of a Laptop )   when in LAPTOP MODE and with a DVD-RW Player built-in , the machine is very useful and very handy especially when the machine is sitting on our lap when doing software installation , software archiving , burning DVD's , backing up videos and home movie collection , etc., etc. 

Do we still need an Optical CD/DVD Drive ? In my opinion , we still do [ 1 2 3 ] , 

regardless whether it is sitting inside  a  5G  Cellular Laptop , or inside a  5G  Cellular Tablet or attached to a  5G Folding Smartphone which can unfold into a  15.6 inches  Tablet ( via a Docking Station ) .  In my opinion , each and everyone of these machines are qualified to be a true or a real           [ Laptop/Tablet/Smartphone (ALL-in-ONE) with built-in DVD-RW Player ]  machine , which can serve as  a Laptop , which can serve as a  Tablet and which can serve as a  Smartphone .  I only carry 1 machine . I only carry 1 device . I only require 1 charger . I only require 1 Cellular Data Plan . Thats it ! 

There are so many ways ( whatever the design is ) to make a Folding Smartphone but I guess  this is one way how to make a Linux Folding Smartphone that can unfold into a  15.6 inches Linux Cellular Tablet

 In my opinion , for those who are involved in making this   " DIY Smartphone Laptop "   project , they : 

1.   should  take great pleasure in making sure that the  laptop has a screen size of  15.6 inches  ,

   

2.  should  take great pleasure in making sure that the Laptop can be folded  360 degrees , so that it can be a  15.6 inches Laptop if we want to , and it can be converted into a  15.6  inches Tablet if we want to . In my opinion , in terms of user experience ,  a  "360 degrees foldable" Laptop is much better than a  "detachable"  Laptop .

 

3.  should  take great pleasure in making sure that the Laptop is using INTEL processor/microprocessor, and running one of the most user friendly Operating System   on the planet  Earth , which is , the INTEL-based Windows Operating System(Windows 10 OS or Windows 11 OS)  or the INTEL-based  Linux Operating System(a good example is  UBUNTU TOUCH  1  2  3) .  In my opinion , Wintel is still the best  hardware/software  solution , regardless whether it is a  PC/Desktop , or a Laptop or a Tablet or a Smartphone or a SmartTV or an Engineering Workstation .  

  

5.  should  take great pleasure in making sure that the  laptop has a DVD-RW Player  [ 1 ]  built-in ,

  

6.  should  take great pleasure in making sure that the  laptop  come with an embedded 5G modem [ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ] and has a  5G SIM Card Slot , and that 5G Laptop must have a phone dialer and when we subscribe to a  Cellular Data Plan [ 1 ] that come with a phone number or a personal phone number , we can dial a phone number on the 5G Laptop just like what we do on a 5G smartphone , so much so that we can use that 5G Laptop to make phone calls and answer phone calls directly on that 5G Laptop ,  just like a  5G smartphone .  Sometimes we do not want to make a VoIP  call using a Mobile App like WhatsApp on our 5G Laptop , we have a phone number from someone  and we just  want to dial that phone  number on our  5G Laptop ,  just like a  5G smartphone .

Currently , as of today October 2023 ,  all  5G Laptops (eventhough they have a 5G modem card built-in) in the market cannot   make/reply   phone calls like a  5G smartphone , regardless of the Operating System being used , regardless  whether it is INTEL-based or ARM-based . 

In my opinion, the reason is because the   network providers/carriers/telcos    dictate which  devices(5G Smartphones, 5G tablet, 5G laptops, 5G USB Dongle, etc., etc.) can   make/reply    phone calls(can utilise VoLTE or can utilise Vo5G/VoNR) and which devices(5G Smartphones, 5G tablet, 5G laptops, 5G USB Dongle, etc., etc.)  cannot   make/reply   phone calls(cannot utilise VoLTE or cannot utilise Vo5G/VoNR) or perhaps , it may be that the    network

 providers/carriers/telcos     do not want to  support  voice calling  like a 5G smartphone ,  in a 5G Laptop and 5G USB Dongle and finally they said ,  " 5G Laptops and 5G USB Dongle   was not originally intended for phone calls like a 5G smartphone " .                                       By God's Grace ,  hopefully , in the not too distant future , this might change .

For me , it would be great if  all 5G Laptops(regardless of the Operating System being used , regardless whether it is INTEL-based or ARM-based) and all 4G Laptops(regardless of the Operating System being used , regardless whether it is INTEL-based or ARM-based) and all 5G USB Dongle(when connected to any Laptops , when connected to any Tablets ,  regardless of the Operating System being used , regardless whether it is INTEL-based or ARM-based) can make phone calls and reply phone calls just like a 5G smartphone , just like a 4G smartphone .

  

In my opinion , the main criteria in doing this  DIY  15.6 INCHES  SMARTPHONE Project(or  DIY SMARTPHONE LAPTOP Project) is TO BRING ALL THE  IMPORTANT  SMARTPHONE            HARDWARE/SOFTWARE     FEATURES TO THE LAPTOP AS MUCH AS WE CAN , especially a feature whereby we can make phone calls and answer phone calls directly on a Laptop , just like a 5G smartphone .

 

This  " DIY  15.6 inches Smartphone "   project , if prove successful  , this machine has an excellent value for money, considering it can serve as a Laptop , it can serve as a Tablet and , above all it can serve as a Smartphone, and all are being done on a      15.6 inches screen size.

In my opinion , there is no point having a 5G Cellular Laptop or buying a  5G Cellular Laptop or calling the machine   a               " 5G Cellular Laptop "    if the   " 5G Cellular Laptop "  machine cannot make telephone calls or receive telephone calls or have phone functionality ( audio and video calls ) , just like a  5G  Android/Apple   Smartphone .

Your Laptop is your Smartphone .
