In my hunt for a college laptop, this is the one I ended up on and after using it for about 2 months I think I can give a good review.
What I use it for: So far this laptop has mainly been used for my java class, research as a "third monitor" at home, reading eTextbooks, and running a side cookie clicker profile. I've also installed steam and discord on it but have rarely used either.
Pros:
Good textbook reader: especially since the online reader doesn't handle keyboard controls very well, the touch screen and tablet mode allow for a very easy book reading experience.
Full keyboard: it's sometimes important in programming to have a full keyboard with the number pad and was one of the reasons I chose this laptop over others.
Fast processing: compiles and runs my basic programs very quickly, cookie clicker runs smoothly if it hasn't been open for more than 3 hours (although that is a java issue I believe) and the one steam game I played ran smoothly in windowed mode (super fancy pants adventure, some reviews have mentioned windowed mode is required if your computer isn't a beast).
Little bloatware:I don't recall having to uninstall many programs when I first got it, beyond the standard driver software and windows app store games this laptop didn't have any pre-installed junk. (Comes with dolby audio, NVIDIA GeForce experience, acer product registration, and Intel rapid storage.)
Ports: plenty of usb ports (3, two 3.0 and one 2) with an hdmi, usb-c, and SD card reader. Only one audio jack so if you have separate mic/headphone jacks you will need an adapter.
Cons:
Tiny arrow keys: while not nearly as bad as the macbook airs my high school provided, the arrow keys are rather small and fat fingering the up/down arrows is very common for me. The function keys are also semi-small but since I hardly touch those I haven't really noticed a big difference.
Speakers: during windows setup one side of the speakers gave out on me when I held the laptop a certain way. While it hasn't happened since, it is still somewhat worrying and should be pointed out. On the rare occasion I use the speakers they do work pretty well but I prefer my shelf speakers.
Fingerprint reader: might just be fore me but the fingerprint reader has about a 40% chance it works for me, usually I just enter my pin when logging in.
Fans: the fans are not too terribly loud but sometimes seem to come on randomly. Doesn't get too hot for light work but cpu intensive stuff can get it up there. Bought a cooling pad for it regardless since I put it on blankets/couch a lot. Like most laptops I've used, the fan also only blows out one half of the back. Appears to have intake underneath tho.
Power button: terrible design with the power button and probably the main reason this isn't five stars along with the arrow keys. The power button extrudes out the right side and is very easy to accidentally tap against something when holding sideways to read. Having it indented into the frame could have easily fixed this.
Q/A's I personally had or notes:
Trackpad isn't centered and I tend to lean on the right side, sometimes right clicking when I don't want to
Haven't tested/used the mic, camera was working for facerig
Does it have tap to click? yes
Is the keyboard disabled when using it as a tablet? yes
Can my cat use it? sorta
The lid is sorta flimsy and can press down in the middle a bit further than the edges. When my backpack is full and I open the laptop after carrying it there is a line on the screen where it touched the end of the keyboard, wipes off easy enough.
It does not have headphone memory - unplugging or plugging the headphones in will keep the sound at the same level so if you plug your headphones in and forget to turn the volume down you're in for a surprise.
Overall good laptop for school if you get it on a deal, personally I paid about $500 and would say it was worth it. Not sure I would pay the full $800 - speaking as a poor college student

Striking! I pulled it out of the box and was instantly amazed at the fabulous, flawless design. It's SO thin! thought I, as it turned in my hands, swirling and sashaying before me. In a word? Not-Basic! Okay, two works but this picture is worth far more than a thousand words. It's beautiful. It's a gorgeous laptop.
I turned it on. The keyboard lights up first. "Professional" is the attitude of the R15. I opened it at work and, instantly, all the work laptops were shamed. Ugly, dull, boring workhorses next to my sexy, professional sand-blown gun metal warrior laptop! The screen? Got a moment? The screen is like seeing 4K in Best Buy for the first time. Readable as the very best reader ever made and lush- Absolutely lush. The colors blaze and seduce the eyes. The type is nano-accurate. Brilliant. I read reviews stating it's putting out the most NITS of any laptop under $1,200. Bright and colorful! It's nitty. It's got the NITS.
How does it type? Well, I've yet to make a mistake and I'm going as fast as I would talk. I can type at 110wps but normally with 12 errors. No errors yet. The keys are nicely separated. Honestly? I thought the Lenovo had the best keyboard. It might be "the best" on paper but, this is equal to it for my professional hands. Now, the pad, which I'm not accustom to using is trick - a true delight. It's elegant. It's stylish, with a bright chrome boarder that says, "expensive". I got to use the fingerprint biometric device and it works fine. It's better than the one on my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. I had to stop using that darn phone reader. Made me crazy! As if everyday my fingerprint changed daily or something. The Acer R15? I've logged off and on fifteen times. No errors. And you know what? I JUST noticed the numeric keypad! How necessary is that? I love it! A full size keyboard right on the keyboard. Sweet. I have the m.2 ssd option of 256gb. It shows 211 gb free right out of the box.If you don't have Prime, you're basic and need to get it so people won't laugh at you.
What else? The laptop feels solid. Only Acer has been honest and I do love that. Acer explains in honest technical terms why batteries last about 300 charges. I'll break it down for you..., Batteries last about 8 times longer than a gay relationship or 6 times longer than a redneck's. You can wait a year or buy an extra battery now. THE DIFFERENCE is, the battery life in this unit is reported at 9 hours. This sleek Ever-ready will still be rolling 5 hours after Asus craps out and 3 hours after Dell. I'm bored now. Enough already. You've read my view. I've been a network engineer for 15 years. I know what I'm talking about, and I know style. Buy the Acer R15. You won't regret it. Treat yourself and don't cheat yourself!
After using the laptop for a week now, here are my experiences, pros and cons:
Pros:
1. Battery life, when you follow the instructions, drain to 3%, charge to 100%, drain again and charge to 100%, repeat), I'm getting well over 11 hours per charge.
2. There was a good deal of intelligent design offered to the dual video (Intel HD 620 first, then, nVidia kicks in when needed). Sames power, offers excellent IPS viewing.
3. The keyboard continues to be outstanding and, I don't know how people are having trouble with the fingerprint reader because mine has never failed. I had a coworker try just to see if it was letting me in without checking. Nope. It's working, it's just fast and accurate.
4. The wireless is getting close to a 1GB in speed. It's super fast on 802.11ac
Cons:
1. There is no RJ45 port. You have to buy an Acer adapter.
2. My microphone doesn't work. Acer offered a replacement but, I'd rather avoid the hassle and buy a $5 USB 2.0 unit. They work better anyway.
3. I didn't realize I can't add an 2.5" SSD since I have the M.2 SSD. There simply are no connections for it, only a metal plate where a connector would go. My only choice is to upgrade the M.2 and they ain't cheap!
STILL 5*****. The value for the money is incredible! Amazon was right making this their choice.

1.0 out of 5 stars Laptop breaks down after 2-3 months of use
Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on September 19, 2018Research this computer's problem first before ypu make this purchase. After 2-3 months of use, the computer starts to break down or malfunctions. ACER tech support doesn't seem to care about their clients. They only care for your money.
Edit: forgot to mention that I have veen trying to call their tech support but the agents hang up on you. I called back, they asked what happened to the last call and i tell ththeththem that the agent hung up on me and their response is "We aren't allowed to hung up the phone. You must have hung up or the line was disconnected." This is independent of the seller however. ACER is just a bad company.
